SFU Partnership

DMCA is the only elementary school in the region
to partner with Saint Francis University

SFU1DMCA is the only elementary school in the region to integrate university-level resources into its curriculum thanks to our hands-on partnership with Saint Francis University (SFU). Launched in 2018, our growing partnership includes:
  • On-site instruction by SFU faculty members, including chemistry labs conducted with our 5th and 6th students

  • Hands-on sustainability labs conducted in partnership with the Saint Francis Institute for Energy. The labs, conducted throughout the year, help strengthen our students' understanding of environmental sustainability. Weather stations installed on our East and West campus give students the opportunity to delve into  weather, air and water analyses. Lab projects have also focused on recycling, electricity and other sustainability initiatives.

  • Professional development seminars for our teachers that reflect today's challenges, including ongoing workshops on trauma-informed educational practices and mindfulness. These mindfulness workshops have been developed in partnership with The Bottleworks-Arts on 3rd, as well as other community and educational organizations committed to the role that the arts can play in strengthening mindfulness, reflection, sense of self, and emotional and social learning.
